Kevin: Hello readers! I am here to welcome the first Author of the Month. Please welcome Brian Webster!
Brian: Thank you. Glad to be here!
Kevin: So tell me Brian, it says you've been a Deviant for 4 years. That's a pretty long time! So we know how long you've been part of deviantART, but the real question is how long have you been making stories of the female muscled variety?
Brian: I've actually only been doing Gamma (my first and only muscle story) for about a year. The first couple of years I spent collecting female muscle art and stories. And believe it or not, I didn't even post them on deviant art immediately. I was only posting them on brawna.org and one of my watchers (I forget his name. Much apologies and respect) asked why I hadn't. So I started and the rest is history.
Kevin: I've been to Brawna myself, but I guess I just haven't clicked with it...yet. So the question I'm betting a lot of people have is how far do you have to go with your ongoing series, Gamma?
Brian: Well I'm writing part 42 as I type this (see kids, multitasking isn't difficult) right now I have planned up until part 50 and from there, I will start 'season 3'. I have an overall plan to where it will end but I don't know how long it will take me to get there.
Kevin: Oh I understand perfectly where you're coming from there, having done long stories myself. Though one thing I find about that story, which is something that even I am having difficulty handling, is your use of multiple story arcs. How do you manage to keep track of everything that's going on, at various places among the various characters, while successfully avoiding plotholes?
Brian: Not to boast or brag, but I keep it all in my head. I have become so attached to the characters that I am constantly thinking about them and running scenarios with the characters. But I have to keep remembering where I have them in the story and where I want them to go. It helps a lot that I only have one story running. If I did more than one, there is no way I could do it. (laughs)
Kevin: I suppose it depends on the person. Some might prefer to stick to one story all the way til the end while others might try working on multiple stories. Did you have any early conceptions for future all-new stories once Gamma eventually runs its course?
Brian: I do, actually. When all is said and done with Gamma, I'm going to do a spin-off series called Omega that will focus on other characters not featured in Gamma. Though I will most likely get back to them as well. The Omega stuff will be more 'done in one' but will feature an overall theme sprouting out of Gamma.
Kevin: That certainly sounds like an interesting concept. And Omega certainly sounds fitting for a spin-off. Though I'm sure I already know the answer to this, but do you allow peoples' suggestions to certain aspects of your story to influence how certain aspects unfold? I remember bringing up the Brie/Jess conflict that spawned from when they were out in Arizona, and from my point of view, it was looking unusually strung out for something that Jess had little control over. I suggested that unlike the Jess/Dean fallout, Jess should just apologize to Brie. And sure enough, that happened in part 39.
Brian: A little bit of column A and column B. My intent was always to have Jess and Brie 'make up' for lack of a better term, but I was going to stretch it out a bit. You convinced me to wrap it up quickly because I had enough on Jess' plate. I'm sure there are other instances, but for the most part if a suggestion comes my way, it gets incorporated into the story. The "Brie/Kiki" sexathon springs to mind. lol
Kevin: Yes, I was amazed at how well Jess was handling her fallout from Dean. So moving on, what got you into the whole concept of feminine muscles, something I'm sure we can all agree could use more mainstream exposure?
Brian: Hmmm...excellent question. I suppose deep down I prefer strong women. And by extension, feminine muscles are simply a representation of that. To break it down even further, power is sexy. Women are sexy. And powerful women...well that just takes it up to 11. (laughs)
Kevin: Finally, how would you describe your experience of sharing your words of art among the female muscle fan community, the fan base you've established, and your interactions with other female muscle fans?
Brian: It has been nothing but positive. Initially I was just writing stories that appealed to me. If you notice, the first few chapters of Gamma are pretty well just muscle, sex, or strength feats, or what have you. Then as I built up the characters some more, I started getting into them and began to expand the 'universe' as it were, and here we are building up to part 50.
Kevin: I'm really glad to hear it. That certainly is one of the pros of doing a continuous story: the longer it is, the more detail and life you can give it. Well hey, thank you very much for your time! I personally have been enjoying Gamma and I very much looking forward to how it pans out. As a gift, I bought you a free three-month subscription to deviantART here, so you can customize your main page and add new features.
Brian: Wow! That is very kind of you! I will definitely make the most of it.
Kevin: Well Brian, thank you for your time and keep up your awesome work! I'm sure I speak for all your watchers and lurkers when I say you have one helluva story going.
Brian: No, thank you guys. Without fan support, I can truthfully say that I wouldn't have pushed myself to keep it going this long. You guys rock!
